Does crash dieting work when I want to reach a competitive match goal? Although fast diet fixes are tempting when competing for boxing classes, watch your health closely while making weight. Athletes who compete in categories based on weight need to understand that good, balanced nutrition is mandatory for optimal performance.

Rapid Weight Loss is extremely harmful to a boxer. Training required for fight preparation is difficult, stressful and demanding. The body is weakened by rapid weight loss because it is being starved of essential nutrients. Rushing pound loss will make it far more difficult to achieve maximum performance. Proper dieting consists of sound nutrition and allowing plenty of time to reach the desired weight goal.

Strive to keep punching the whole time you’re training with any of your boxing workouts that include one of the bags. This will help you to optimize your workouts to their fullest benefit. You may be amazed, if you’re a beginner, that your heart rate will accelerate and your legs, obliques, shoulders and arms will run out of gas.

The speed drill will develop anaerobic endurance. Throw your punches as fast as you can. When doing combination’s, use a minimum of four punches.

It is surprising how many boys grow to college age without even having been taught how to hit properly. Hence if the father gets no point across to his son other than the proper care of his hands, he has done a good job. A boy who is taught the proper fundamentals at an early age has a distinct advantage over others.

If he chooses to box in high school, college, or in amateur boxing, he has a head start on the beginner. The coach will not have to break any unorthodox or bad boxing habits he has acquired by himself.

Outside drills develop staying power and footwork. Make sure you circle in both directions. Throw your combination and then move quickly. Jab and circle, and throw your straight punches and jabs in combination’s.

Your son should practice his trusty right with father’s chin as target. Father drops his left to allow the right to come across, and blocks with his own right. See that your son snaps the right straight across with a lot of zip, and that he has his fist closed, chin down, shoulder up. Be sure he does not throw a “roundhouse” right.

Punching a light bag is fun. It is great exercise, and increases speed and coordination. Little boys pick up the knack very quickly after a minimum amount of practice. Fathers also find a punching bag excellent exercise, and unlike most exercises, they enjoy it
