The University Of Miami Hurricanes Athletics
Miami football has been around because 1926. The program currently plays from the ACC(Atlantic Coast Conference). Inside the football program’s history they have totaled 5 national championships with one of the most recent coming back in 2001. Miami is presently ranked #4 all time in college football titles.There have been two previous players that have won the Heisman Trophy. They also hold the record for one of the most consecutive house victories with 58. Miami is recognized well for their players getting drafted within the NFL Draft. Back in the 2004 of the NFL Draft, Miami had a record 6 players taken from the 1st round. They also have the record for most consecutive years(14) of having a player drafted inside the 1st round.
Miami is also recognized for having several highly touted coaches. Jimmy Johnson(also former NFL head coach) coached the team from 1984-1988. Another former NFL head coach(Dennis Erickson) coached the school from 1989-1994. Butch Davis then followed from 1995-2000. Starting in 2001, a lesser acknowledged coach(Larry Coker) was hired. He coached the team via 2006. The current head football coach is Randy Shannon. He’s been at the command because 2007. Miami has appeared in 33 bowl games & have won 18 of those. Their two biggest rivals are Florida State & Florida. There have been many great players come via the University of Miami.
One bad flaw facing Miami is the big brawl that happened back in 2006 in a game versus FIU(Florida International University). The brawl took almost 20 minutes before things got back under control. Due to this brawl, there was 13 Miami players suspended for one game.In addition to a couple previous Heisman winners, Miami also has several other players inside past with awards. There have also been a few coaches to take house awards as well. Miami baseball has been amongst the elite programs given that 1973. A whopping 23 appearances within the College World Series. Also, out of those appearances, 4 national championships. The baseball team, like the football, plays in the ACC(Atlantic Coast Conference). However, that didn’t happen until 2004 when Miami switched over from the independent status.
The 1st of 4 national championships for Miami in baseball came in 1982. 3 years later they captured an additional title. It wasn’t long until another run. Winning championships in 1999 & 2001.Jim Morris has been head coach for the past 16 years. The only other Miami baseball coach to have a longer tenure was Ron Fraser from 1963-1992. Both of these coaches have two national titles each. Fraser in 1982 & 1985 while Morris in 1999 & 2001.
There have also been quite a few former Miami baseball players in MLB. Some of the current MLB players are Ryan Braun & Pat Burrell. There’s something you may not have acknowledged about the baseball program. The current baseball stadium is now named after current Yankee great Alex Rodriguez. This all due to a $3.9 million donation by him back in 2003. Not bad to see from one of the greatest baseball players in the game.

Ole MIss vs Oklahoma State in the Cotton Bowl
The Cotton Bowl is honored as the longest running game in college football history. It has been there from 1937, holding games every year in the Cotton Bowl Stadium. The Cotton Bowl has since moved to Cowboys Stadium, which is located in Arlington, for the 2010 games. Though in a different venue, the game is still the same and the players still have the same dedication and the fans still have the same enthusiasm. Ole Miss Rebels seemed to be taking center stage in the game after last season’s win over Texas Tech and a repetition of the same over Oklahoma State with a swooping 21 – 7. The Cotton Bowl is also very widely acknowledged.
This was a match up teams that might have played in the postseason anyway if they had lived up to expectations. Both teams were dark horse national title contenders when the season began, but both teams stumbled and did not reach the promised land of Pasadena. The turf in the new state of the art Cowboys Stadium would have to do, however. This game was certainly close enough to be a national championship game. Both teams engaged in a defensive struggle for three quarters before the Rebels were able to pull away for their second straight Cotton Bowl victory.
Running Back Dexter McCluster had a field day for the Rebels and showed why he could be a potential NFL first round draft pick in just a few short months. McCluster ran for 182 yards on 32 carries and added a pair of touchdowns as he carried the bulk of the Ole Miss offense. He also ran early and often. McCluster provided the game’s first score when he busted an 87 yard run with 11:19 left in the second quarter. That run made it 7-0 and the Rebels would hold that lead until halftime.
Defense was the strongest point for the Ole Miss Rebels, and Zac Robinson was certainly not among the beneficiaries of that defense. This defense also produced numerous passing offences seen in the history of college football. They were however unable to keep The Cowboys away from the board during the third quarter. Keith Toston, the running back, made sure that Oklahoma was in the end zone through his trick play. He stopped in the middle of the line with one play and made a successful jump pass to Wilson Youman. Andre Sexton set up an interceptive touchdown at the 12 yard line to make a short drive.
This toughened McCluster’s defense for the Rebels. Zac Robinson’s disgraceful move made Oklahoma lose the ball on its 34 yard line to Ole Miss. The Rebels got a chance to break the tie after five plays through a score by McCluster’s short run. The score came too late for Oklahoma State to catch up, and the Rebels defense did not offer them any consolation. Hubert Anyiam made good use of Robinson’s unskilled pass to make a touchdown and squash the hope of Oklahoma State making a comeback.
